At today’s press conference Watford manager Sean Dyche accused Premier League sides of showing a lack of respect towards clubs in lower leagues, developing players only to be offloaded on the cheap to Premiership clubs.
He told reporters:
“Big clubs should go about their business in an appropriate manner.”
“Unfortunately, as is often the case these days, their offer is nowhere near our valuation. That’s the awkward side of the game now, and they do it for their own reasons.”
“I couldn’t begin to tell you how far away it was – my son’s got more in his money box.”
“If clubs at our level are helping to develop players, I think it’s fair to say that big clubs with money should respect that and go about it in an appropriate manner.”
“Rather than tickling us with offers which are nowhere near the player’s worth, to try to provoke a reaction from us, we do not need to accept the first bid that comes along”.
Sean Dyche was also a guest on talkSPORT today and he made a few comments on Newcastle’s recent interest in Adrian Mariappa.
When asked about his recent outburst on Newcastle’s bid for Mariappa, the Watford manager said:
“It’s not really been a blast at Newcastle United or Alan Pardew, they’re a fantastic club.”
Andy Gray suggested that Newcastle were “dipping their toes in the water” regarding our opening bid, to which Dyche replied:
“Yes, I think there is a bit of that.”
“There’s no trying to hide it, there’s no trying to mask it, we’re very open with the player and the situation and the situation is that he’s a Watford player, simple as that.”
When asked if his centre-back would play for the club this weekend, Dyche replied:
“Absolutely!”
As to whether Mariappa would be a Watford player by the end of January, he replied:
“Well, that’s out there.”
“You can’t just keep turning down bids for your players. You don’t want them to go, but they will go.”
“Watford will eventually lose a player, if they’re given the right amount of money.”
