Former Newcastle United player Paul Bracewell believes his ex-employers can qualify for Europe this season.
Bracewell, who swapped the mackems for the magpies in the summer of 1992, also thinks the fans will have a vital part to play as the Toon enter their final 13 games of the season.
He told the Chronicle:
“I’m sure they sat down at the start of the season like most Premier League clubs and their first aim was to avoid relegation.
“Everybody’s thinking, ‘Where are we going to finish?’ but I don’t see any reason why Newcastle can’t qualify for Europe after the start they’ve made to the season.”
Bracewell, who was a Kevin Keegan signing, added:
“Having played there I know what it’s like.
“The commitment you show sort of projects onto the terraces, and vice versa. The fans will back you all the way.”
Paul Bracewell made 73 appearances in all competitions for Newcastle United, playing in midfield between 1992 and 1995.
