Ajax midfielder Vurnon Anita has confirmed that he will discuss personal terms with Newcastle United after both clubs agreed a fee.

Speaking after Ajax’s season opening draw against AZ Alkmaar, Anita confirmed that a fee had been agreed, but was keen to stress that he is yet to agree personal terms with the Toon.
He said:
“Ajax and Newcastle have reached an agreement, but I have not spoken to Newcastle yet.
“The complete picture must be good. If talks do not go well, I will stay at Ajax.
“But I think everything will be alright.”
Anita also confirmed that his representatives made a counter-proposal to Ajax’s contract extension offer. However, the Dutch giants rejected this and he has decided to move on:
“We submitted a counter proposal and Ajax didn’t accept it. So we look elsewhere.
“Leaving Ajax will be strange. I’ve played here for 13 years. I’ve enjoyed some good times and learned a lot.
“I am grateful to Ajax. It’s a pity I have to leave but football is like that sometimes.”
Earlier in the day, Ajax boss Frank de Boer said that both clubs were close to an agreement over Anita.
The 23-year old played the entire 90 minute against Alkmaar, in what looks like his last game at the Amserdam Arena. The fee agreed is believed to be €8.5 million (£6.2m).
After a lengthy pursuit, it looks like Newcastle have crossed one hurdle re: Anita. Once personal terms are agreed, he will be a Newcastle United player.
