Newcastle’s new home shirt for the 2012/13 season carries the famous motto “Fortiter Defendit Triumphans” as seen on the city’s Coat Of Arms.
The latin phrase which translates to “Triumphing by brave defence” is printed inside the back of the shirt, just underneath the collar. It comes from the time of the English Civil War when pro-King Newcastle was stormed by Oliver Cromwell’s Scots allies, based in pro-Parliament Sunderland. The King bestowed the motto upon the town.
The new shirt will be available to buy in shops from tomorrow (Thursday). We’ve been told that there will NOT be a players signing session at the club shop.
Toon fan @sargey sent us some snaps of the new kit which he pre-ordered last week. He’s got the limited edition version which came with a laptop bag.
