Newcastle have held talks with the agent of Ajax star Vurnon Anita, as they look to secure a deal for the 23-year old midfielder.
According to the Evening Chronicle, Toon Managing Director Derek Llambias and Club Secretary Lee Charnley have met Mino Raiola to discuss the potential transfer of the versatile Anita.
However, the newspaper states that Newcastle will not break the wage cap to sign the youngster – who has also been offered a lucrative contract extension at the Amsterdam Arena.
In the case of Anita, “His wages would be “reviewed” after his six months on Tyneside should he decide to make the switch to St James’ Park.“
According to rumours in Italy, AC Milan is a potential destination for Anita because Raiola has good contacts there. The player himself, who can also play at left-back has described NUFC as a ‘beautiful‘ club in the past.
Newcastle are also believed to be in the running for Anita’s teammate Gregory van der Wiel. However, Arsenal and Valencia are also keen.
