Newcastle have reportedly made a new €8 million for Ajax midfielder Vurnon Anita, as they look to close business on one of their main transfer targets.
The news comes from Dutch newspaper De Telegraaf, who also say that Anita has rejected a lucrative contract extension at Ajax and told the club he wants to leave.
Ajax fansites think Toon’s latest bid will be accepted and some are even talking about potential replacements for the 23-year old.
Earlier, Toon officials opened talks with Anita’s new agent Mino Raiola – but were adamant not to make him a high earner at the club. The versatile Dutchman plays primarily as a defensive midfielder now, but can also play at left-back.
Newcastle’s fresh bid is believed to be €8m (£6.2m), excluding bonuses.
