A ROGUE Twitter account in the name of Cheick Tiote with 24-thousand followers gave Newcastle fans the blues, by announcing that the player was being forced out of St. James’ Park. A total fabrication.

But even when the writer is real, be careful what you tweet for.

In the run up to Euro 2012 the French football team have been told to be cautious. Laurent Blanc has passed on a message for his players from the French football hierarchy according to France Football:

“We have a duty to keep things confidential. There is a danger that Twitter, Facebook and blogs can damage this duty.

“You have to be careful in this age of an online community. Any comments or feelings that you put on line can get out of hand if the media gets hold of it”.

Uploading photographs banned too, as Toon star Hatem Ben Arfa explained:

“We were told to give nothing away about life in the French camp, but at the same time to act normal”.

The forewarning comes at a time when Manchester United’s Rio Ferdinand has taken to twitter to vent his frustration at not being called up for Euro 2012 for the second time for “football reasons”, as the injured Gary Cahill was replaced by 22-year old Martin Kelly, who has played just 10 Premier League games this season.

Ferdinand appeared to respond in dismay on social networking site Twitter, by posting to his 2 million follows the rhetorical question:

“‘What reasons?????!!!”

Ferdinand is supported by the a large number of his two million plus followers on the social networking site, and a media frenzy has ensued with Ferdinand’s England future the casualty, as his agent Jamie Moralee has accused Roy Hodgson of “a total lack of respect”.

Tweets seemingly speak louder than words as Ferdinand has yet to give a comment to the media, but his feelings seem very clear.
