James Perch reckons Swansea will be tough opposition at the Liberty Stadium tomorrow, ahead of Newcastle’s Premier League clash.
The versatile footballer, who will face a late fitness test for NUFC ahead of the game has seen the Swans get the plaudits for their pass and move football and the ability to keep the ball under pressure.
Perch, now revelling in the glory of his new fans given nickname ‘Perchinho,’ has played against Swansea several times for Forest and thinks the Welsh side will look to dominate against the in-form Toon.
Perch told The Journal:
“I’ve had experience playing against Swansea for Nottingham Forest. We never used to like playing against them because of how they keep the ball.”
“You know what you’re going to get. They don’t change to play against anyone – be that Manchester United, Chelsea, Manchester City or Wigan.”
“They stick to their formation and pass the ball at every opportunity. We know what to expect, definitely. We know we’ll get worked out of possession – credit to them.”
The 26-year old is now enjoying a good run in the team and seems to be confident on the pitch once again. His battling performances and versatility have led fans to chant “We’ve got Perchinio” from the stands. The former Forest man has acknowleged the praise and feels flattered.
He added:
“I can’t get away from that Perchinio nickname now! It’s flattering really.”
“I’m enjoying it and when you’re beating Liverpool 2-0 and your name is ringing around St James’ Park it’s a good feeling. The manager loves it!”
“The players haven’t given me much stick for it . . . Yet!”
Newcastle signed James Perch from Nottingham Forest for a fee in the region of £1m, back in the summer of 2010. For an insight into James Perch’s Tyneside revival – read our blog HERE.
