Alan Pardew has backed his Newcastle side to continue surprising the football pundits – as the season enters it’s final phase.
The magpies sit in 6th, having amassed 44 points and are two points ahead of big spending Liverpool (7th).
Ahead of today’s Premier League game against Norwich, Pardew is in confident mood – despite Newcastle’s last gasp defeat at Arsenal on Monday night.
Speaking in the pre-match press conference, Pardew said:
“We’ve had a fantastic season. It’s tough to get into Europe. You have got a team with the finance and quality of Liverpool who could run us down and we will have to hold our hands up if that happens.”
“But we are going to give them a good fight for their money.”
Pardew is not underestimating the battling Canaries – and cannot emphasise the importance of the game if NUFC are to realise their European ambitions.
“It’s an important game.”
“We are focusing on getting into Europe. We will need to win four or five games in 10 which is going to sound a lot if we don’t win on Sunday.”
“We are disappointed with the [Arsenal] result but we can be proud of the commitment and the effort we put in.”
Newcastle are looking to end a run of four games with a win when they host Norwich on Sunday.
Commentary
Alan Pardew knows how important the last 10 games are this season, as NUFC look to build on their good work early on. This game is the perfect opportunity to get back to winning ways but Paul Lambert’s men will be fighting for the point to pretty much secure another top flight season.
