Newcastle frontman Papiss Cissé reckons his goals can fire NUFC into Europe this season.
The 26-year old scored his third goal for the magpies – and the winner against Norwich yesterday. It was a stunning strike once again, as Cissé nipped in front of his marker to rifle home from Jonas Gutierrez’s dangerous cross.
Today, the Senegalese striker has told the official website that he wants to keep scoring for Toon fans.
“I love scoring here at this stadium.”
“The fans are fantastic and I want to keep scoring, keep winning games and get Newcastle into Europe next season.”
Cissé missed a few changes in the first half and could have had a hat-trick.
After the game, he was delighted with the three points, adding:
“We didn’t play as well as we can do, but it was important that we got three points – that was all that mattered.”
Cissé joined Newcastle from Bundesliga outfit SC Freiburg in a fee believed to be in the region of £10m.
In the week building up to Newcastle’s game against Norwich, certain parts of the media decided to ‘pick’ on Cissé, hinting that he’s struggled to settle. The player, slowly finding his feet returned to the team in fine style with a striker’s performance.
His movement on the pitch was top class. He was finding enough space but found John Ruddy in inspirational form too. On another day he will score a hat-trick and make it look simple.
As Demba Ba said on Cissé’s arrival, “He is a proper goalscorer.” We are now starting to see what he meant.
